Grab a tissue. This video, “Sandy Hook: ‘Evil did not win.'” is heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. The mother of Emilie Parker, one of the 20 victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting last year on December 14, 2012, shared her tender feelings about the grief, the pain…and then the things that helped her start to heal. The kindnesses, letters, meals, support, prayers…the combined love of so many helped lift their family and helped her remember and feel the power of God.
She answers the poignant question that she’s been asked, “Where was your God when this happened? Why didn’t He stop it?” Her response is breathtaking and sums up Mormon beliefs about the plan of salvation, the importance of agency, and the power of love and of God.
Thank you, Alissa Parker. Thank you for opening your heart in this powerful video.
