This week, we will be sharing testimonies (expressions of faith and conviction) from youth in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Today’s thoughts come from a 12-year-old young woman who shared her feelings about the Book of Mormon.
The Book of Mormon is the best book that has ever been written on the planet. The Book of Mormon has changed my life.
I just recently finished the Book of Mormon all the way through for the first time. In the last book, Moroni 10:4 says this:
And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
The first time I prayed to know if it was true, I only did it because everyone else was doing this and I thought if I prayed, he would answer. It did not come the way I wanted it. (That is the way God works. We can always ask God, our father. And I promise, he will answer your prayers. Every time.) Going back to my experience, I got an answer. It was, “Listen.” And after that, I have listened and I have got revelation from him.
I promise. Everyone can get revelation from him. If we ask. Anyone can get revelation. It comes from an open heart and trusting the Lord.
Trust him with all your might, mind, and strength. And he will be there to help you.
One of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormon is Helaman 5:12:
And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.
I promise, if you build your foundation through prayer, reading the Book of Mormon, and trusting in the Lord, you will not go astray. You will have to work on it, Satan is there. He will try to pull you down but that sure foundation will keep you planted and firm.
Remember: God loves you. He has been there the whole time. And sometimes you may not think he is there, but if you pray with a sincere heart, you will know in your heart and soul that he is there.
I will pray for you. You are so courageous to ask for a Book of Mormon. And now, I encourage you to read it and then ask, ask with a sincere heart that you may believe it.
