The art in this competetion gets more varied every year, which is wonderful. It showcases the broad range of cultures, viewpoints, and artistic interpretations of the varied membership of our worldwide church.
It is impossible to choose a favorite. But a few that struck me were ‘Flight’ by Rose Datoc Dall, ‘The Bridegroom Cometh’ by Elizabeth Gibbons is amazing to me with all the little pieces of wood, ‘The Three Gardens’ by Tracy Ann Holmes is beautiful in it’s simplicity and concept, and I have to choose ‘Peter – Man of Faith’ by Cherstin Sparks because I worked with her in the church a few years ago and know that her art reflects her personal strong faith, ‘Family Frenzy’ by Janis Lorene Wunderlich makes me laugh while I also identify with the artist, and of course the leather pop-up Book of Mormon by Richard Passey is amazing- when will that go into publication? Because I want one for my family!
My nine-year-old and I sat for a couple of hours recently and savored many of these pieces. I loved so many of them. I still have about half of the pieces to look at — she wanted to take her time on each piece, zooming in, and discussing the symbolism and artistic value that she saw.
I love seeing how people express their faith. Thanks for sharing this – it’s so well worth the time to enjoy it all.
