I think most of us struggle with this at times. Life can be hard! And sometimes our bodies are responding in self-protect mode (limbic system survival...a part of our natural-man makeup). Gratitude is one of the things that helps invite me out of my natural-(wo)man, acted-upon state. But it's not *natural* for most of us to have that be our go-to. I think that is one reason gratitude is a commandment...because God knows it isn't natural.

And thanks for the Mary Ellen Edmunds recommendation. She is a treasure. I had the blessing of sitting at her feet for nearly 8 weeks every Sunday in the Missionary Training Center back in the day when she taught the Sister's meeting (so it was not quite that close -- it was in an auditorium filled with hundreds of missionaries, but I felt like she was ministering to my soul personally each week.)

Grateful for your participation here, Rozy. <3

You are not the only one to have felt that sting of lemon juice on an open wound. And yes, gratitude helps steer the mind and and heart toward the Master Healer. Some days it's all I can do to be grateful for running hot and cold water, flushing toilets, and such. When I look around at my shabby house and begin to feel sorry for myself I remind me that the pioneers would have considered it a palace! Mary Ellen Edmunds gave a great talk called something like Gratitude: the theory of relativity. I love listening to her musings on the subject. Thanks for sharing your perspectives.
