In California, they always made a big deal of it, having a parade and inviting the local community to join our celebration. It was great
We recently visited the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center in Old Town San Diego, CA — it is a great way to see what life was like for those early pioneers! Our kids loved it! 🙂
In Utah, there’s the youth parade, and the Days of ’47 parade, commemorating the arrival of the first pioneers in the Salt Lake valley. (We usually watch them in our pajamas eating pancakes!)
One year we visited the This is the Place Park near Salt Lake City, UT. Another wonderful place to go get a taste of pioneer life!
During the summer they have actors portraying some of the early pioneers, and telling their stories. It was a real blessing to be able to hear the one representing our ancestor share his story, and his testimony of the Book of Mormon.
I look forward to meeting, and thanking our real ancestor one day for all he did that has so blessed our family!
