I Just want to say thank you all for everything, i cant tell you how much your words and thoughts have helped me. I've been looking into new churches to go to and see a little more into this, i'm not sure where my life is headed right now its a bit of a mess at the momment, but to know that there are women as kind as you out there keeps me holding on. I pray about everything it seems, as i'm not sure what to with anything in my life, and through your words i've found that i need to remember to pray for others not just myself. So i'm praying for all of you, and hoping that soon others will see what wonder women you are, and that being mormon doesnt mean your really diffrent, that in the end we all love god and turn to him, and isnt that what matters? So if from here i go on to because a mormon, i now know it doesnt matter, i dont need to classify myself to be happy with myself and to share an ever lasting relationship with the lord. I still have many question that will help me along my path and thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for answer some of them. Thank you all.

What is your life like as a Mormon Woman?
That is a beautiful question because I can see the differences very well. I have had contact with Christianity a few times in my life. The first time was when I was baptized about a month after I was born. Of course I don’t remember what really happened. Later when I went to school we had a religion class that a Catholic Priest taught. As seven-year olds we were afraid of the Priest because he was strict and talked about God punishing us. I was glad when the Communists banned teaching religion in school. My parents didn’t not teach me or my siblings about the gospel. They had other concerns about how to raise their family. So my family grew up without God and in time we forgot about him. We felt like God left our family. We were never a happy family and I don’t like to think about my childhood. I married early, but even my marriage was not happy. My husband was rough and at times I was physically abused. He didn’t respect those that were around him. I was very unhappy and desperate. With my husband I didn’t have anything to say to him and I was afraid of him. After five years of marriage I divorced him and I was left alone with my two sons. Three years after the divorce my ex-husband died due to alcohol. It was a hard time for me and my two sons. The thing that bothered me the most was how it was hard for my kids at school. Six years after the divorce I met my second husband and we got married.

In the nineties, (when I was fifty two), when the Communists ceased to govern, I bought a Bible, because it was fashionable, and I read a piese of it. But it was for me very difficult to read, and understand, so I have postponed for a short time. I was an ordinary Czech woman, tired by the everyday rush. Children no longer lived, And I, lived with My husband alone. The daily charge, to and from work, evening watching TV, sometimes on a Saturday visit to the children or friends ...
When, in January 2003, I met Jesus Church. It was special. It started one morning, on the way to work in the tram, I read the various ads and among them I found one, hrat offers free English lessons. I wrote the phone number and when I returned home from work, so I have to number call. The voice that answered, I called for the opening lesson of English. When I came to the agreed place, I saw a sign that says The Church of Jesus Christ Holy recent days. I thought it addressed. When I knocked on the door, opened up my two girls. It was special, but I saw how those girls shone. Neither can not describe it, but I saw the light. It was something amazing. I can remember what we speak in English, but very well remember that I was invited on the Saturday closest to the "Open Day". With curiosity, I set out there on Saturday with my husband. I learned something about American pioneers, who in the 19th century go to the west. I also learned about genealogy and family history. All this was very interesting. We were invited the following day, on Sunday to the church congregation. When leaving I took half a booklet, and the husband took a book. I'd like the book itself never, because I know that books are rare and can not just book without someone gave it to me. At home I read the booklet, it was the testimony of Joseph Smith. His testimony struck me and I wanted to learn more. On Sunday I went with eagerness to the Church meeting. My husband did not want to go. I never experience something like that. It was amazing. Soon the missionaries and took me to answer my questions. From that day on the Sunday the congregation came to me very important and I started going to Church regularly. I started to read the book of Mormon, and I still thad had something to inquire about. I began to converse with our Heavenly Father in my prayers. To have us missionaries went home and taught me the gospel. I knew Joseph Smith was chosen to restare the Church of Jesus here on earth. I know also that the Book of Mormon gives us the fullness of the Gospel. Once the missionaries asked me whether I fear baptism. It took me by surprise, and I failed to respond. I consulted with Heavenly Father, But I didn´t get an answer. When once, when I was at the first meeting where they were babtism of two girls. Suddenly, I longed to be baptized also. I realized that God gave me the opportunity to know the gospel. I realized that the most important thing to do is move forward. And that can only by baptism. I felt immense love in my heart and gratitude.
24. May 2003 I was babtized.i wull never forget that day and I will always be grateful for the opportunity my Heavenly Father offered me. My life has changed a lot. Many I understand and many are still learning. Today I know who I am, why am I here and where I will. I know also that the most important things are faith, hope and love. Today I feel so much love, how much I feel for all my life. A love, which charged me feel even more love to return to all around him. I am happy when I can help anyone around me. I am pleased when I teach with the missionaries, when I teach the children in primary, when I ask for the turning of the speech to the Assembly. When I organize trips for members and non-members ... You could say that I am walking with God. Book of Mormon help me a lot, and help me a lot of brothers and sisters not only in our turn, but in the Czech Republic. Many I have met in the temple and the various joint actions. A lot of my help missionaries and help me a lot of authority in the SLC. I am grateful for temples. I am grateful for that, I could perform rites for their parents and grandparents as well as your first husband. Whenever I stand before a decision to pray in spirit and I think how would be make the Jesus Christ preserve. In prayers, I thanks for all the gifts from Heavenly Father. In the first place, thank Him for Jesus Christ. And thank Him for all the gifts, and also the tests. Daily I ask Heavenly Father to soften the heart my husband and children, so they will turn to God and know Jesus Christ. I believe that I will be married to my husband in the temple ...

Hi Shelly,
I wanted to address your concern about your boyfriend. Throughout my life, I have been taught that I am a child of God and that he loves me and I always felt that it was true, and over the years have come to know that it is. Through trial and error, I have learned that although I don't remember my relationship with Him, He does. I am learning that His Love for me is real and pure. His only concern with me is that I reach my full potential of happiness. I guess what I'm trying to get at is because I know that He knows me and loves me unconditionally, and because I know He created me, this world, and everything in it, and becuase of my faith in him as the omnipitant God the Father, because of the mercy he has shown us by sacrificing his only begotten son to be our/my savior... I can trust in him. If there's one thing I have learned it is that the Lord knows me better than I know myself. I have made many mistakes thinking I know what's best for me. I have also experienced immesurable joy and relief after following a personal prompting, or council by the scriptures or Prophet, rather than my own desires, realizing that I couldn't have foreseen the outcome. (my husband being one of them:)

I think that the most important thing for you to do right now is not to worry about your boyfriend. Continue developing your relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Pray, Pray, Pray. Your prayers will be answered. Think of Heavenly Father as a father with a perfect love for his child. forgiving and patient. He knows and understands all of your concerns. He's just waiting for you to come to him with them. He loves your boyfriend too. He may or may not be what the Lord has in store for you, but either way, just go with the flow, do the best you can and as you develop your relationship with Heavenly Father, step by step, you will be lead carefully in the right direction. As you act on faith, it will grow. Life can feel so uncertain and scary when it comes to making big decisions, but knowing that you followed what you felt was the will of the Lord will give you peace and endurance.

I think the Lord manifests himself in different ways, but for me the consistancy, in retrospect, is peace and chaos.. in other words, everything around me can be chaos, and logically it may not make sence or it might just be a mess, too hard, and overwhelming.. Chaos. But something inside me feels peaceful, comfortable, natural. And that's when I know it's right. On the other hand something might seem right, feel good, make logic sence, but something inside just doesn't click, or I have a "stupor of thought", and that's when I know it's wrong.

As a Mormom Woman, my most valauble asset is the Gift of the Holy Ghost. As a mother in this exciting, yet confusing world, There are no words to describe my gratitude for the consistency in the teachings of the Gospel of
Jesus Christ. We have so many resources to help us strengthen our family relationships and learn how to be better parents. I feel like I have an anchor in this crazy storm called life. The light of Christ is something we're all born with. It's what leads us to him, and helps us to discern right and wrong. The companionship of the Holy Ghost is a gift you recieve when you're baptized. He is a teacher, a comforter, a guide. He comunicates with your spirit the things that the Lord wants you to know to help you. As a mother I need it. I would be lost without it, and I am so thankful for it.

When it comes to your boyfriend, there are a millioin sinarios. We do the best we know how, having faith in the Lord, and when we mess up, "just keep swimmin' "

One more thing: I have always been a music lover, but have recently discovered the power of uplifting music. Music that provokes spiritual thought is like a drug to me.. My mind is instantly put a frame of peace and spiritual contemplation. Check out Mindy Gledhill. I also love Switchfoot ("on fire" is my fav.) I'm not saying give up the stuff that gets you movin', just an idea.

Good luck with everything.

When it comes to your boyfriend, there are a millioin sinarios. We do the best we know how, having faith in the Lord, and when we mess up, “just keep swimmin’ ”

One more thing: I have always been a music lover, but have recently discovered the power of uplifting music. Music that provokes spiritual thought is like a drug to me.. My mind is instantly put a frame of peace and spiritual contemplation. Check out Mindy Gledhill. I also love Switchfoot (“on fire” is my fav.) I’m not saying give up the stuff that gets you movin’, just an idea.

Good luck with everything.

I love being a "Mormon"--belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love being a woman and especially I have loved being a mother. I know our Heavenly Father has a special love for women. He has given us such special gifts that are designed for us to fulfill our divine role as mothers. Even if we don't get to be a mother on earth, we can do much with the gifts He has given us to love and nurture others.
I love knowing I am His daughter, the Daughter of a Heavenly King, and that I have divinity and worth in His sight. I have gained this knowledge for myself as I have sought for it in scripture study and prayer, using my faith, and many other principles and virtues that the Lord has given us to grow--like sacrifice and obedience. It is very true that we grow in strength as we come together as sisters in this gospel. However, I know there are women who come to our church and still don't feel like they belong or fit in. That is because Satan does not want us to have feelings of self worth. He wants to deter us as far from God as possible in any possible way that He can. That is where the true strength of a Mormon Woman comes in, the ones who truly know who they are because they have gained that testimony for themselves. They stand on holy ground, firm and unshakable in their faith.
Everyone--I repeat, everyone can gain that knowledge for themselves. God has given the light of Christ to everyone born on earth. It's up to us to follow that light and find out for ourselves. God has given us the precious gift of free agency to choose. We each have to choose to accept the Savior and His Atonement and then put it to work in our lives. God has kindled that light in you, and you have felt the spirit working in your life to guide you in the right direction. Follow that light and remember that everything that makes you feel good and of worth and of value comes from God. Everything that makes you feel puny or alone or unworthy or afraid or any other negative thing comes from Satan. Cast it out. Use prayer. It works. God hears and answers our prayers in the way that is best for each of us, regardless of our religion, or even if we have no religion. All we have to do is believe in Him and pray. When we are sincere, He knows, and then He helps us find the way. The way is Jesus Christ. Follow Him. Once you find Him, then you will understand what makes Mormon womanhood and sisterhood the strength that it is.
Know this also, Satan is never going to give up trying to lead us away from God. Even those on the firmest ground are still buffeted by Satan. We have to work hard at it every day to keep our faith strong. So, please, don't ever give up trying. Get on the path, and stay on the path. Jesus Christ will enable you to do the seemingly impossible every single day. I bear testimony of Him, that I know that He lives! He loves us. He desires with the tenderest of mercies to enfold us in the arms of His love and bring us Home to our Heavenly Father where we will inherit all that the Father has, even Eternal Life.

Hi Shelly, I think you can love both God and your boyfriend. Falling in love is a natural precursor to your desires to be a wife and mother.

I was wondering if you have talked with your boyfriend about spiritual things? Have you talked with him about what his beliefs are about family, God and religion? Do they match yours? These are good things to talk about in any serious relationship.

I can tell you that having a husband that has supported me in my faith has made me love him greater than I had previously imagined. The commenters have talked a lot about what it is to be a Mormon Woman in their responses. A Father's role is just as integral to the progress of family members.

The Prophet and Apostles of our Church have written a Proclamation about the Family and its central role in God's plan for His children. I will post it below. I suggest you read it together with your boyfriend and see if you agree with the principles taught therein.

I was going to give you a link, but was worried it wouldn't work so I have put the entire document below.
If you do want to print it out, just cut and paste this address into your address bar. It will take you to the Proclaimation at our church website at LDS.org.

The Family: A Proclamation to the World

The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children.

All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.

In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.

The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.

We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God's eternal plan.

Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. "Children are an heritage of the Lord" (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed.

We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.

We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
